Pruning FAQs

Answers to common questions about professional tree pruning.

What's the difference between pruning and trimming?
Pruning is targeted removal based on tree biology and structure (ANSI A300). Trimming often means shaping without regard for health. We only provide professional pruning . never 'topping' or harmful practices.
When is the best time to prune?
Most trees: late winter/early spring (dormant). Spring-flowering: after bloom. Dead/hazardous limbs: anytime. We assess each species for optimal timing.
How often should trees be pruned?
Mature: every 3-5 years. Young: every 1-2 years for structure. Fruit: annually. Custom schedules based on species, age, location.
Will pruning hurt my tree?
Proper pruning by ISA certified arborists improves tree health and longevity. We never remove >25% live crown/season (ANSI A300 standard).
Do you top trees?
Never. Topping (indiscriminate cutting of large branches) is harmful, creates hazards, and violates ANSI A300 standards. We use crown reduction instead.
